Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – The Ambassador for International Relations of the Republic of Korea’s Gyeongsangbuk Provincial Government, Hong Jong-kyoung has expressed his wish to organise the World Culture Exhibition in HCM City.

Hong, who was leading a delegation of officials from Gyeongsangbuk province and Gyeongju city, discussed the idea at a meeting on December 2 with Vice Chairman of HCM City People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan.

The city official said he was pleased that the RoK showed its interest in organising the event in HCM City and initially agreed on the time, venue and expenses for the event as well as some relevant issues.

He added that the initiative should be approved by the Vietnamese government as this is a national-scale event, noting that once receiving approval, the two sides should quickly set up working groups to make necessary preparations.

According to the RoK Ambassador for International Relations, the exhibition has been organised eight times since 1998, in which six events were held in the RoK , one in Siem Reap, Cambodia and one in Istanbul, Turkey.

The event is organised by logal governments but is of national significance to the RoK and is sponsored by the RoK’s State budget.

Hong said he hopes the event can be held in November, 2017, at the same time with the APEC summit in Vietnam.

According to Hong, the exhibition will last around 20 days, with the estimated participation of 30 countries. If realized, it will help promote HCM City to the RoK people and the world, giving a boost to the city’s tourism sector.

Presently, around 80,000 RoK citizens are living and working in HCM City and about 1,800 RoK enterprises are operating profitably.-VNA
