Hanoi (VNA) - President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in has committed 5 million USD this year for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to speed up COVID-19 vaccination.

The RoK leader made the commitment during the ASEAN-RoK Summit that was held via videoconference on October 26.

Expressing concern about the slow global economic recovery due to COVID-19, he stressed that solidarity and cooperation is the only way to overcome the COVID-19 crisis.

He said the RoK has made contributions to the ASEAN COVID-19 Response Fund and the ASEAN Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies for Public Health Emergencies.
Moon also called for ASEAN's assistance to resume dialogue with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) as well as negotiations between the DPRK and the US on the denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula.

Following the session, ASEAN and RoK leaders adopted a joint statement, agreeing to advance their strategic partnership into one that’s more substantial and mutually beneficial to better respond to regional and global opportunities and challenges and contribute to enhancing peace and prosperity./.
