Land erosion along rivers in the central province of Quang Nam is worsening with 82 kilometres of riverbank affected, causing serious impacts on local livelihoods, production and public infrastructure facilities.
The most critical land erosion are recorded in Duy Xuyen, Nong Son and Dai Loc districts and Hoi An city.
Numerous households living along the Ly Ly river in Duy Thanh commune, Duy Xuyen district have left their houses due to severe landslides that threaten local people’s lives, properties and infrastructure facilities such as clean water supply and low voltage power stations and the post office.
According to Chairman of the communal People’s Committee Le Trung Xuan, bamboo trees and bamboo stakes have been planted along river to prevent the erosion.
Head of the provincial water resources bureau Truong Xuan Ty said that the province has reviewed and listed embankment projects needing state support while making local re-planning for residential areas and giving warning on erosion-prone areas to people.-VNA
