Ha Giang (VNA) – A ceremony was held at Vi Xuyen National Martyrs’Cemetery in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang on January 22 torebury the remains of 11 martyrs who laid down their lives to safeguard thenorthern border.
Colonel Nguyen An Phong, PoliticalCommissar of the provincial Military High Command, said that after an extendedperiod of searching, the province’s search team gathered the remains of 11unknown martyrs in the villages of Nam Ngat and Giang Nam, of Thanh Thuycommune, Vi Xuyen district.
They include officials and soldiers fromaround the nation who stood side-by-side with Ha Giang’s army and local people inresolvedly protecting the national territory in the northern border defence warin 1979.
They will be remembered for devoting theirwhole lives for the cause of national independence and freedom.–VNA
