The flood tide in Ho Chi Minh City on October 20 rose to 1.64m, a record level seen in the city in decades, submerging many roads and residential areas.
Binh Thanh, Thu Duc districts and district 8 are among areas most seriously hit. The high flood also stopped the traffic in a number of central roads including Me Co, Pham The Hien, Dao Cam Moc, Phu Dinh port in district 8, An Duong Vuong in district 6 and some others in district 5.
According to the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Centre, the flood-tide level will stay high in the next few days, exceeding the third warning level by 0.12-0.14m.
Earlier on October 19, the flood-tide also broke part of a 1m high water-retention wall in Binh Thanh district’s ward 28, submerging nearly 30 houses.
The municipal Flood and Storm Prevention and Control Steering Committee and the Binh Thanh authorities pumped out the water and repaired the mamage wall.
The committee also sent urgent notes to departments, authorised agencies and localities in the city, asking them to promptly apply measures to cope with the historical flood-tide.
In October last year, Ho Chi Minh City also suffered from a high flood-tide level of 1.62m.-VNA
