Addressing the event, Lao ConsulGeneral in Da Nang city Khamsene Phommaseng stressed that Quang Nam was amongVietnamese localities that provided great help to Lower Lao provinces during thewar for national liberation.
Tam Vinh commune in the province’sPhu Ninh district housed the Lower Lao Resistance Base from 1948 to 1954, whichprovided the safe shelter for Lao revolutionary armed forces and Vietnamese voluntarysoldiers.
Vice Chairman of Quang Namprovince’s People’s Committee Le Van Thanh recalled that the province had 304voluntary soldiers who fought in Lower Laos during Laos’s resistance wars fornational independence.
At present, Quang Nam has maintainedclose relations with its twinning Sekong province. The province’s tertiaryeducation establishments have trained hundreds of Lao students.
On the occasion, the organizers ofthe friendship exchange – Quang Nam’s Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association andPhu Ninh district’s People’s Committee – presented 10 scholarships to Laostudents studying in the province and 30 scholarships to local needychildren.-VNA
