Quang Binh: Highways reopened to traffic after flood

Most national highways in the central coastal province of Quang Binh were reopened to traffic on October 16 after the recent flood.

Quang Binh (VNA) - Most national highways in the central coastal province of Quang Binh were reopened to traffic on October 16 after the recent flood.

However, many local roads are still inaccessible due to inundation and damage, according to Director of the provincial Department of Transport Pham Quang Hai.

Meanwhile, several sections of the North-South railway remain closed.

The railway sector has dispatched hundreds of officials, engineers and worker along with equipment from the south and the north to repair the rails for early resumption of service.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee has decided to support Ha Tinh and Quang Binh with 500 million VND (22,421 USD) each.

Heavy rain occurred in central Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri on an extensive scale from October 13-16.

According to the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention, the flood has so far claimed 21 lives and caused 8 others to go missing.

More than 100,000 houses were inundated and damaged.

Quang Binh was the hardest hit with 15 deaths.

The Ministry of Health on October 16 issued a notice urging health departments in the north-central region to closely follow the flood developments and build prompt response plans.

Chairman of the VFF’s Ho Chi Minh City chapter Nguyen Hoang Nam said the city has donated 10 billion VND (448,300 USD) to support flood victim in central provinces.

The VFF’s HCM City chapter has launched a campaign to collect donations to help central provinces.-VNA
