Quang Binh cave festival kicks off

Son Doong Cave in central Quang Binh province has been recognised as the world’s largest and most beautiful natural cave by the World Records Union and the World Record Association.

Quang Binh (VNA) - Son Doong Cave in central Quang Binh provincehas been recognised as the world’s largest and most beautiful natural cave bythe World Records Union and the World Record Association.

The title-granting ceremony was held lastweekend under the framework of the Quang Binh Cave Festival 2017, themed VuongQuoc Hang Dong – Ky Vy va Huyen Thoai (Cave Kingdom – Glamorous andLegendary), at Bao Ninh Square in the province.

The festival, held every two years, aims tointroduce and promote Quang Binh and its outstanding resources, with more than300 alluring, unique and grand caves, which have unique geology and richbiodiversity, along with making Quang Binh’s tourism a spearhead industry ofthe locality.

The festival kicked off on June 17, attractingthe participation of Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien,Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan, leaders of QuangBinh province, locals and tourists.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, chairman ofQuang Binh province’s People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Hoai highlighted Quang Binhas a new destination attracting both local and international tourists with itsunique tourism products.

“With its charming mystery and grandeur, unspoiledbeauty, Quang Binh is truly ’the kingdom of caves’ and a paradise for visitors,”Hoai said.

Also at the opening night, famous artists suchas My Linh, My Tam, Anh Tho, Trong Tan and Dinh Huong performed to the audiences.

Quang Binh Cave Festival 2017, which runs untilJune 25, features a range of activities, including Quang Binh cave discovery, aparade, boat and kayak racing, sports contests and an EDM Beach Party.

Quang Binh is famous for its cave, incrediblemountain scenery and sprawling beaches. Its Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park wasrecognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003 thanks to its impressivescenery and archaeological value.

Quang Binh is also where American fantasymovie Pan in Neverland and American blockbuster Kong:Skull Island were filmed.-VNA
