Public Security Minister discusses cooperation with FBI Director

Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang held talks with Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey on March 16, during which they discussed measures to intensify cooperation between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies in preventing crimes.

Speaking of the minister’s visit to theUS, Comey stated that the visit will contribute to deepening thecomprehensive partnership between the US and Vietnam and work towardsmaintaining peace and stability in the region and the world.

He thanked the Ministry of Public Security and its InvestigativePolice Agency for investigating and hunting several wanted criminals andhanding over evidence relating to several cases as requested by the US.

At the meeting, both sides lauded the resultsof cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security andthe US Department of Justice and between the Vietnam Police and the FBIin sharing information and experience as well as in investigatingcrimes, particularly organised crime and those involving drug smugglingand money laundering.

They agreed to enhancecollaboration between the Vietnamese police force and the FBI throughexisting mechanisms while speeding up negotiations towards signingcooperation documents to establish a legal framework on crimeprevention, including a convict extradition and transfer agreement.

Minister Quang and FBI Director Comey also witnessed the signing of aletter of agreement on FBI’s transfer of DNA testing software to theVietnamese Police.-VNA
