Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly Standing Committee raised questions to Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracyof Vietnam Le Minh Tri during a Q&A session of the ongoing 21st meeting in Hanoi on March 20.
Theirquestions revolved around solutionsto improving the quality of prosecution and judicial activities in handling criminalcases, inspecting the execution of criminal, civil, and administrativejudgments; and strengthening the review of the handling of denunciations andreports on crimes under the jurisdiction.
Tri said preventing criminals from evadingjustice and fighting wrongful convictions are a consistent policy and toppolitical task of the procuracy sector.
According to the official, the settlement of criminal cases has get better year on year, with annual targets assigned by the legislature beingmet or surpassed. The rate of wrongfulconvictions has also decreased steadily over the years and NA’s tenures, which accounted for a verysmall ratio compared to the number of defendants who faced trials.
ThePeople's Procuracies at all levels fulfilled their duties and responsibilities,thus minimising the risk of criminals evading justice, he said.
In orderto strengthen the fight against corruption, Tri suggested fine-tuningmechanisms and policies, improving transparency and openness in the social andState management system, especially in sensitive areas where corruption islikely to occur while increasing effectiveness in administrative reform.
It is also necessary toperfect a synchronous and uniform legal system, the Prosecutor General added./.
