Da Nang (VNA) –A project to reduce greenhouse emissions by encouraging the saving of water andelectricity was launched at a workshop in the central city of Da Nang on October10.
The project is part of theUN’s 10-Year Framework Programme on Sustainable Lifestyles and Education.
Atsushi Watabe, a researchmanager at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies said environmentalprotection has helped develop tourism, trade and services.
The project aims to spreadthe value of choosing a sustainable lifestyle.
According to calculationsused for the building of water supply and drainage infrastructure in Vietnam,an urban citizen consumes an average of 120 litres of water per day. This isset to increase to 170-190 litres by 2030, while in advanced countries, averagewater consumption is falling.
Bui Tho Ninh, head of theDa Nang Water Supply JSC, said 91.28 percent of households in the city usewater daily, with consumption averaging 136 litres per person per day.
Efficient use of resourcesat treatment units and households is important, he added.
Ninh also mentionedmeasures to save water and highlighted that a sustainable lifestyle must betaught to children from a young age.-VNA
