Hanoi (VNA) -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested Google open an officialrepresentative office in Vietnam to jointly handle issues that may arise whilereceiving Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of the US's Alphabet Inc, Google’s parent company,in Hanoi on May 26.

He welcomed the Alphabet Executive Chairman’s visit, saying Google is doing wellin Vietnam with many of its products becoming popular with Vietnamese peopleand businesses.

The PM affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always makes it easy for foreignbusinesses to invest and do business successfully in the country.

As the two countries have huge potential for cooperation, the upcoming officialvisit to the US by a Vietnam’s high-ranking governmental delegation will seekto step up economic, trade and investment ties for mutual benefits, theGovernment leader said.
 
He asked Google to work closely with the Vietnamese side to tackle distorted informationviolating Vietnamese law posted by some elements on the Internet.

He spoke highly of Google’s assistance to the Vietnam Farmers’ Association tohelp train digital literacy for dozens of thousands of farmers.

Alphabet’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt affirmed that his company supportsthe cooperation between Vietnam and the US.

He said he is impressed with Vietnamese people using YouTube for educationpurpose, noting Vietnam ranks second globally in using the website.

He said he just attended the inaugural ceremony of a Google-sponsored projectto train digital literacy for Vietnamese farmers. The project will enable thoseliving in remote and rural areas to use information to serve their daily lifeand production.

Eric Schmidt said his company will work closely with Vietnam to remove evilinformation infringing Vietnamese law and will study the opening of arepresentative office in the country.-VNA
