He stressed the need to respect the UN Charterand international law, especially the rules on respecting independence, sovereigntyand territorial integrity, and peacefully settling international disputes.
Given great challenges facing the world, thereshould be global approaches to global issues, he said, adding that it isnecessary to strengthen international solidarity and multilateralism, take people at the centre in handling common challenges and not to trade social welfareand security or the environment for economic development only.
The PM used this occasion to thank the UN for itssupport to Vietnam in its long journey of national reconstruction, reform and internationalintegration over the past 45 years, by providing the country with financial and technical assistance, andpolicy consultancy, which, he said, have brought in practical outcomes.
Notably, during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam hasreceived great, timely and effective support in terms of vaccines and medical equipmentthrough UN mechanisms, he continued.
For its part, Vietnam has made significant contributionsto UN activities, including its successful assumption of non-permanent membership of the UN SecurityCouncil, and dispatch of personnel to UN peacekeeping operations.
PM Chinh called for more support from the UN in thetime ahead, particularly in the achievement of sustainable development goals,post-pandemic recovery, social welfare and the fulfillment of Vietnam’s climatechange commitments.
The Vietnamese Government will work to promotecooperation with the UN and create the best possible conditions for UN organisationsto effectively roll out cooperation programmes and projects in the country, hepledged.
In reply, Tamesis praised Vietnam as a model for itsdynamism and active contributions to the international community, as well as forcooperation between the UN and a developing nation.
She also congratulated Vietnam on achievements thecountry has recorded in the pandemic fight and economic recovery with thespirit of leaving none left behind.
Vietnam has paid attention to consolidating itsmedical and social welfare systems, which is significant to intensifying itsself-resilience amid global challenges in the future, she noted.
This year marks the 45th year of cooperation betweenthe UN and Vietnam, and it is also the first year to implement the Frameworkfor Sustainable Development Cooperation between the two sides for 2022-2026, Tamesissaid.
She pledged to make efforts to coordinate UNorganisations in order to help Vietnam in sustainable socio-economicdevelopment, post-pandemic recovery and the implementation of focal cooperationcontents between the UN and Vietnam./.
