Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasised Vietnam’s hope forincreased cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) whilereceiving IMF Deputy Managing Director Mitsuhiro Furusawa in Hanoi onJune 12.
PM Dung said the financial group has long backed Vietnam, particularly in policy consultation and technical supports.
Vietnam aims for a rapid and sustainable socio-economic growth withstable macro-economics, improved social welfare and reduced poverty.Towards these goals, the Vietnamese government has been making effortsto carry out its defined key policies, focusing on completing marketeconomy institutions, accelerating global integration, and economicrestructuring, Dung told his guest.
Furusuwacongratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic progresses, includingfulfilling the United Nations millennium development goals ahead ofschedule, sustaining macro-economic stability and improving locallivelihoods.
He attributed the results toefforts made by the Government and the people as a whole and believedthe nation will achieve robust mid-term growth.
Furusuwa commented that Vietnam has a clear and sound vision ofsocio-economic growth. He proposed the country should take advantage ofthe current condition to launch restructuring of its mechanisms,particularly fiscal and credit policies, as well as the bank andstate-run sectors.
The IMF Deputy ManagingDirector lauded the outcomes of joint projects between Vietnam and hisorganisation and highlighted that IMF is willing to continue supportingVietnam, especially with policy consultation, technical assistance andcapacity building.-VNA
