Bangkok (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has lauded the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association for its contributions to the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand.

Meeting with Chairman of the association Prachuab Chaiyasan in Bangkok on October 28, the PM said he hopes the association will continue to work closely with the Vietnamese side in boosting people-to-people exchanges.

He took the occasion to express his condolences for the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The PM was in Bangkok to pay respect to the late King of Thailand.

Prachuab Chaiyasan told Prime Minister Phuc about his organisation’s plan to hold an annual meeting with the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association in Khon Kaen, Thailand, in December.

He proposed that the two friendship associations will coordinate with the Thai Foreign Ministry to introduce King Bhumibol Adulyadej’ s philosophy of "sufficiency economy" to Vietnam, adding that Laos, Cambodia, Timor Leste, Bhutan and Sri Lanka are applying the philosophy.

He also informed the Vietnamese Prime Minister that his association intends to build a friendship hospital in Vietnam’s Nghe An province, which will employ both Vietnamese and Thai traditional medicine in treatment.

The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received President of Siam Cement Group (SCG) Roongrote Rangsiyopash and President of SCG Chemicals Cholanat Yanaranop.

The SCG has operated in Vietnam since 1992, producing tiles, industrial packaging and PVC plastic, among other products. The company and the Petrol Vietnam are co-investing in the Long Son petrochemical complex (LSP), with total capital estimated at between 5 and 6 billion USD.

Roongrote Rangsiyopash said his company will apply advanced technologies as well as ensure labour safety and environmental commitments in line with Vietnamese regulations while carrying out the LSP project.

PM Phuc praised the operation of SCG and the benefit it has brought to Vietnam.

He said he is looking forwards to the success of the LSP project, expecting it to become a symbol of bilateral ties.
