Sonstressed that the Japan visit, the first by Thuong in his capacity as the headof state, demonstrates the thriving relations between the two countries, andcalled it a hallmark in a series of about 500 events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties.
Ahighlight of the visit was the issuance of a joint statement on the elevationof the relationship to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperityin Asia and the World”, he continued.

(Photo: VNA)The official said the two sides reached high consensus on major orientations forthe bilateral ties, emphasising that President Thuong and Prime MinisterKishida Fumio had an in-depth discussion during which they agreed on specificmeasures to strengthen multifaceted cooperation between the two countries,including strengthening all-level exchanges and contacts, further deepening cooperationin economy, trade, investment, official development assistance (ODA) andlabour, strengthening collaboration in national defence and security, andexpanding cooperation in such new spheres as emission reduction, clean energy,digital transformation and green transition.
Thetwo countries will also step up people-to-people exchanges and cooperation betweenlocalities, and enhance coordination in regional and international issues ofshared concern.
Japanreiterated its support for Vietnam to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) Year 2027 and its willingness to coordinate with the Southeast Asiannation to successfully organise this event, Son said.
Onthis occasion, the two sides signed five cooperation documents covering energytransition, health care, and the improvement of law enforcement capacity at sea,space technology and cultural heritage.
Theminister stressed that nearly 40 activities within the visit reflects the hightrust and closeness between the leaders, peoples and localities of the twocountries.
Anotherhighlight of the visit was the President’s delivering a speech at the NationalDiet of Japan, in which he sent out a message to all Japanese leaders and public on an innovative, open, peace-loving Vietnam that aspiresfor development; its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace,cooperation, development, diversification multilateralisation of relations, andbeing a friend, reliable partner and responsible member of the internationalcommunity; and its wish to foster cooperation with Japan, Son went on.
Theofficial expressed his belief that Thuong’s visit to Fukuoka prefecture willcreate new momentum for cooperation between Vietnamese localities and the Kyushuregion.
Theminister suggested the two countries focus on implementing the comprehensive partnershipwith priorities given to raising political trust, which can be achieved by maintainingannual high-level exchanges and contacts in many flexible forms and on all theParty, State, Government, and National Assembly channels.
Theyshould put forth orientations for cooperation in specific fields such as fosteringeconomic links; expanding collaboration in emerging areas like semiconductor,innovation, technology transfer, digital transformation and green transition; andintensifying human resources connections, and promoting people-to-peopleexchanges and cooperation between localities.
Sonalso proposed Vietnam and Japan maintain their close coordination at regionaland international organisations and forums, including the United Nations,ASEAN, Mekong, and APEC.
Theminister expressed his belief that with the comprehensive strategic partnershipframework, the Vietnam - Japan relations will develop strongly and practicallyin all spheres, especially in the above-said priority realms./.
