President Truong Tan Sang on September 2 received Lao Vice President Bounnhang Vorachith and Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An, who led delegations to join Vietnam’s celebrations of the 70th National Day and August Revolution.
At the meeting with the Lao Vice President, President Sang expressed the deep gratitude of the Vietnamese Party, State and people to the Lao Party, State and people for their whole-hearted support over the years.
The two leaders said they are pleased with the development of the Vietnam-Laos relationship and cooperation on all fronts, including the recently signed trade agreements which set a target for two-way trade of 2 billion USD this year, as well as numerous high-ranking delegation exchanges.
They agreed to push ahead with negotiations to sign a protocol on the Vietnam-Laos border lines and national markers and an agreement on the bilateral border gates management regulations before the end of the year.
Meeting with the Cambodian Deputy PM, President Sang highlighted the long traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia as well as the joint efforts of the two people in their struggle for independence and freedom.
The President said Vietnam will continue to build on its solidarity and cooperation with Cambodia.
On her part, Deputy PM Men Sam An conveyed greetings from the Cambodian King and leaders to Vietnam on the historical anniversary.
On behalf of the Cambodian leaders and people, the Deputy PM expressed thanks to the Vietnamese people, volunteer soldiers and mothers for helping Cambodia escape the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime in 1979 and revive the country.
The two sides were unanimous that the two countries should further strengthen their solidarity and mutual cooperation and support to deserve the sacrifice of generations of Vietnamese and Cambodian people as well as to meet the aspiration of both peoples, thus contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world as a whole.-VNA
