Moscow (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Nguyen Thanh Son hashighlighted the significance of President Tran Dai Quang’s official visit toRussia from June 28-July 1, saying it is to affirm sustainable cooperationbetween the two countries based on mutual trust.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency ahead of President QuangTran Dai Quang’s Russia visit, the ambassador said the trip is to affirm Vietnam’sconsistent foreign policy of regarding Russia as a comprehensive strategicpartner.

Italso reflects Vietnam’s international integration as well as the mutual trust inthe relationship which has been tested for nearly a century and further enhancedfollowing Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Russia to attend the ASEAN-RussiaCommemorative Summit in Sochi in 2016, he added.  

Thediplomat described the President’s visit as a breakthrough in the Vietnam-Russiarelations, especially in the present context, in order to reassure sustainablecooperation between the two countries based on their mutual trust.

Henoted that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russiahas been built on the relationship between Vietnam and the former Soviet Union.

Amidstthe world’s complicated developments, Vietnam and Russia should look into theirpotential for cooperation, he suggested.  

Vietnamhas considered Russia not only a comprehensive strategic partner but a time-honouredfriendly partner, the ambassador said, adding that the mutual trust andpotential promise effective economic cooperation between the two countries.

Howto promote economic ties, elevate two-way trade and step up cooperation betweenthe two countries’ ministries, agencies and localities is among the mostpriority tasks set by the two countries, Ambassador Son noted.

Thediplomat appreciated the partnership established over the past two years  between Vietnamese economic groups andlocalities with their Russian counterparts.

Orientationfor cooperation should be encouraged and facilitated, he said, attributing a 30percent year-on-year increase in bilateral trade over the past six months toefforts made by Vietnamese and Russian localities and agencies.

Visitsby the two countries’ high-ranking leaders have created a firm foundation forthe mutual trust and the comprehensive strategic partnership, emphasised theambassador. -VNA
