Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese PresidentTran Dai Quang and his spouse will pay a state visit to Japan from May 29 toJune 2 at the invitation of the State of Japan.
Japanese Emperor Akihito and EmpressMichiko are scheduled to meet with and hold a state banquet in honour ofPresident Tran Dai Quang and his spouse.
During the visit, President Quangwill also hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Vietnam and Japan establisheddiplomatic relations in 1973, and upgraded their ties to the level of ExtensiveStrategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia in 2014.
The two nations have maintainedhigh-level meetings, with the highlights being visits to Vietnam in 2017 byEmperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, and PM Shinzo Abe. The year also marked anew development step in the bilateral relations as the two countries issued ajoint statement on deepening the Extensive Strategic Partnership during theofficial visit to Japan by PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
Vietnam and Japan have closelyand effectively coordinated in multilateral forums such as the UN, ASEAN, APECand ASEM.
In 2017, Japan became the largestforeign investor in Vietnam, with total registered capital of 9.11 billion USD,equivalent to 25.4 percent of the total inflow of foreign direct investment inthe Southeast Asian country.
Japan was also the largest ODAprovider for Vietnam, and the fourth biggest trade partner of the country, withbilateraltrade hitting 33.4 billion USD last year.-VNA
