Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang held a reception in Hanoi on October 18 for Palestinian Ambassador Saadi Salama, during which he affirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance of supporting the Palestinian people’s just struggle for basic national rights.

Vietnam always keeps a close watch on the situation in Palestine and highly values the country’s efforts in strengthening national solidarity and boosting its development, he said.

He also reiterated that Vietnam backs the setting up of an independent Palestine State on the basis of relevant resolutions of the United Nations and legitimate interests of all concerned parties, while encouraging dialogues and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

President Quang also praised the positive contributions of Ambassador Saadi Salama in fostering the partnership between the two countries. He expressed hope that the diplomat will continue promoting his role in boosting bilateral ties in all fields and help the Palestinian people understand more about Vietnam.

Ambassador Saadi Salama congratulated Vietnam on socio-economic achievements during the renewal cause, which have made Vietnam a country with high position in the world arena.

Expressing his admiration at the bravery and resilience of the Vietnamese people during the past struggle for national independence as well as the current national construction and defence, the diplomat said that the Palestinian people consider Vietnam a motivation for them to continue the fight for peace and independence.

He said that he is delighted at the growth of the friendship and cooperation between Palestine and Vietnam, especially after the visit by President Mahmoud Abbas in 2010.

He expressed his belief that the Palestine-Vietnam ties will continue thriving in the future, laying a foundation for the expansion of people-to-people contacts, trade cooperation and student exchange between the two countries.-VNA
