President praises Vietnam News Agency-Kyodo cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) – PresidentTran Dai Quang has lauded extended cooperation between Vietnam News Agency(VNA) and Japan’s Kyodo News over the past years, saying that it is in accordancewith the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership.

During a reception in Hanoi onApril 12 for Kyodo News President and Editor-in-Chief Masaki Fukuyama, PresidentQuang highlighted significant progresses in bilateral political and diplomatic tiesover the past 44 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973.

Expressing support forcooperation plan between the two news agencies, the State leader said asofficial news agencies of Vietnam and Japan, VNA and Kyodo News should furtherpopularise each country’s culture, business environment and people,contributing to deepening mutual understanding and trust between the twopeoples.

At the same time, both sidesshould continue providing timely, comprehensive and objective coverage of achievementsin Vietnam-Japan ties in order to lift the bilateral extensive strategicpartnership to a greater height, he said.

On the APEC Year 2017 with nearly200 meetings and the 25th APEC High-level Week to be held in Da Nang, the hostsaid it enables the two news agencies to coordinate in news coverage tocontribute to the success of such events.

He told his guest that Vietnam isrefining mechanisms and administrative procedures, improving competitivenessand business climate, and prioritising industrialisation and modernisation,during which, the country is ready to provide all possible support for foreignenterprises, including those from Japan, to do long-term business here.

Amid the alarming tradeprotectionism trend, Vietnam backs global trade liberalisation, he said, addingthat countries need to accelerate the negotiations and signing of bilateralfree trade agreements to enhance economic, trade and investment links.
On regional and global issues ofshared concern, he said during meetings, Vietnamese and Japanese leaders underscoredthe need to work closely together at multilateral forums to maintain anenvironment of peace.

Fukuyama, for his part, briefedthe host of the outcomes of collaboration between VNA and Kyodo News over thepast years.

He said the Japanese people aswell as major corporations, groups and local companies are interested in businessopportunities in Vietnam so that Kyodo News holds an important responsibilityfor presenting a full and accurate coverage of Vietnam, its people, culture andbusiness climate.-VNA
