Hanoi (VNA) – President Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with outstandingrepresentatives of ethnic minority groups from the northern mountainousprovince of Cao Bang in Hanoi on September 21.

Therepresentatives thanked the Party and State for issuing all-round policies forethnic minority and mountainous areas to quickly narrow the development gapamong regions.

Theysaid the province’s Party organisation and residents have stayed united andmade efforts to increasingly improve the material and spirit lives of local people.

Welcomingthe 45 delegates representing 500,000 people from 20 ethnic minority groups inCao Bang, President Phuc said they hold an important role in building thegrassroots political system, safeguarding security and order, enhancing thegreat national solidarity, preserving ethnic groups’ cultural identities, andconnecting the local administration with people.

Heasked the Party organisation and administration of Cao Bang province to further listento and handle people’s legitimate aspirations.

Asthe province’s household poverty rate is still higher than the nationalaverage, the local authorities and the outstanding representatives need to pushahead with poverty reduction by properly implementing the Party’s guidelines ondeveloping ethnic minority areas and the National Assembly-approved generalplan on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the 2021 - 2030 period, he noted.

TheState leader held that aside from the State’s support, local cadres andreputable persons should launch movements encouraging residents in their areasto strive to escape from poverty, maintain traditional culture, and eradicatebackward customs.

Inparticular, it is necessary to create the best possible conditions for allchildren to go to school since this is an important prerequisite forsustainable poverty elimination and life quality improvement, the Presidentadded./.
