Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang hosted areception on December 14 in Hanoi for a delegation from the Liaison Board of formerVietnamese experts who were sent to Cambodia to support the country’srevolution in 1978-1989.

Together with Vietnamese volunteer soldiers to Cambodia, the formerexperts helped Cambodian people escape from the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime andrevive the country.

After Cambodia’sliberation, they continued assisting Cambodia in national construction invarious fields from politics, economy, security and defence to culture, healthcare and social affairs.

They successfully fulfilled their international tasks andreturned home on September 26, 1989.

During the meeting, President Tran Dai Quang expressed hisspecial respect to members of the Liaison Board who regularly supported theformer experts as well as their families.

The board has actively given advices to the Party and Statein honouring the former experts, while engaging in summarizing the history,compiling memoirs and educating younger generations about the tradition of thebilateral ties, he noted.

He also lauded the board for active involving in people-to-peoplecontact activities, especially in sponsoring Cambodian students in Vietnam andcoordinating with the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in holdingactivities to mark 37 years since the Vietnamese people helped the Cambodians overthrowthe genocidal regime to revive the nation, thus contributing to fostering thetraditional friendship and neighbourliness and comprehensive cooperationbetween the two countries.

The President said he hopes that the former experts continuejoining in the compilation of a book on the history of Vietnamese experts’ 10-yearhelp for the Cambodian revolution (1978-1988).-VNA
