President lauds Hanoi’s efforts in national defence strategy

President Vo Van Thuong on March 29 commended Hanoi’s efforts in implementing the national defence strategy in the new situation while addressing a conference reviewing the 10-year implementation of the resolution adopted at the 8th plenum of the 11th Party Central Committee on the strategy.

Hanoi (VNA) – President Vo Van Thuong onMarch 29 commended Hanoi’s efforts in implementing the national defencestrategy in the new situation while addressing a conference reviewing the 10-yearimplementation of the resolution adopted at the 8th plenum of the 11th Party Central Committee on the strategy.

Thuong, who is also head of the steering committee forthe building of the project reviewing the implementation of the strategy, saidHanoi has maintained political security, social order and safety, ensuring the absolute safety for major political events of the Party and the State.

He asked the municipal Party Committee to continue maintaining national defence and security as an important, regulartask.

Hanoi should step up the communications work to raisepublic awareness of national construction and defence, foil plots byhostile forces, and closely combine national defence and security withsocio-economic and cultural development and external affairs, the leader continued.

Economic development needs to go in tandem with socialand cultural development and social welfare, he said, urging the capital cityto pay more attention to cultural value preservation and promotion.

Thuong also pointed to the tasks of Party andpolitical system building and rectification, fighting corruption and negativephenomena, reforming the mass mobilisation work, and expanding exchanges withother localities in and outside the country.

The same day, the President, on behalf of Party and Stateleaders, presented the Ho Chi Minh Order to Pham Quang Nghi, former Politburomember and former Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, in recognition of hisgreat contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation./.
