In his letter, President Sangespecially praised the six students who brought home three gold medalsand three silvers from the 54th International Mathematical Olympiad(IMO) that took place from July 18-28 in Columbia.
With the achievements, the Vietnamese team ranked the seventh among all participant teams, up two places from last year.
The President highlighted the fact that Vietnam has been in thetop ten places for 26 out of 37 IMOs it has attended so far.
“Your accomplishments as well as those recorded by Vietnamese studentsat other international Olympiads have proven Vietnamese people’s brainpower, which is one of the important factors to get our country forwardto be on a par with world powers,” he said.
Earlier, fourstudents competing at 45th International Chemistry Olympiad inRussia brought home one gold and three silvers while all fourstudents attending the 24th International Biology Olympiad inSwitzerland claimed silver medals.
Vietnamese students alsowon two golds, one silver and two bronzes at the 2013 InternationalPhysics Olympiad in Denmark and two silvers and two bronzes at the 2013International Olympiad in Informatics.-VNA
