Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issuedDecision 1740/QD-TTg approving a targetprogramme for power supply in rural, mountainous and island regions in the2016-2020 period.
The objective of the programme is to provide electricity for householdsin rural, mountainous and island areas to enable them to escape poverty and improvetheir living conditions.
It aims to contribute to protecting political security and social orderand safety, while safeguarding national defence and sovereignty over nationalterritory, seas and islands, while giving more favourable conditions foreconomic restructuring of the areas.
Specifically, until 2020, the programme will supply stable powerservices to households in the areas from the national power grid, new andrenewable power resources with a target of giving power access to almost allrural households.
Seventeen communes, with 8,890 villages and 1.05 million households areexpected to benefit from the programme, which also aims to connect small andmiddle-sized pumping stations in 13 Mekong Delta localities to national powergrid, while strengthening electricity supply to island localities.
Total cost of the programme is about 30.11 trillion VND (1.29 billionUSD) sourced from central budget in line with the middle-term public investmentfor the 2016-2020 period.-VNA
