PM wants diplomatic sector to be more proactive, sharp, innovative

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said he wants the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be proactive, sharp and creative in order to ensure national interests at a working session with the ministry's officials in Hanoi on June 19 to roll out the foreign policy under the 13th National Party Congress’s resolution.

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime MinisterPham Minh Chinh said he wants the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be proactive, sharp and creative in order to ensure national interests at a working session with the ministry's officials in Hanoi on June 19 to roll out the foreign policy under the 13th National Party Congress’s resolution. 

At the session, Minister Bui Thanh Sonreported on diplomatic achievements and proposed measures to perform hisministry’s tasks in the time ahead.

PM Chinh applauded the diplomatic sector’sefforts to uphold its glorious traditions, successfully carry out the Party’sforeign policy, and put national interests above all amid a very complex andunpredictable diplomatic context over the past years, thereby substantiallycontributing to national construction and defence.

Pointing out certain shortcomings indiplomatic activities, he asked the sector to devise solutions and stayproactive, sharp, and creative for the sake of the country and the people.

As the external situation in thecoming years will keep changing fast, complicatedly, and unpredictably, whichwill generate intertwined challenges and opportunities, the sector needs tostrongly build on its achievements and successfully carry out the foreignpolicy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation anddevelopment, and multilateralisation and diversification of foreign relations asstated in the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, thus guaranteeingnational interests at the highest level, according to the Government leader.

In the new context, he went on, theForeign Ministry should strongly promote the sector’s pioneering role increating and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment and mobilising resourcesfor development, helping to raise the country’s stature and prestige.

The PM requested the ministry to keep a close watch on the situation,provide timely advice to the Party and State about diplomatic guidelines andpolicy, while pressing on with and improving the effectiveness of bilateral andmultilateral diplomacy, economic and cultural diplomacy, external informationservice, and settlement of overseas Vietnamese affairs./.
