Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosteda reception in Hanoi on April 5 for General Surapong Suwana-Adth, Chief ofDefence Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, during which he promised tocreate favourable conditions for the Vietnamese and Thai armies to step upcooperation.
PM Phuc welcomed the official visit by General Suwana-Adth,describing it as an important contribution to the enhancement of the friendshipbetween the two countries and cooperation between the two armies.
Having expressed his delight at the sounddevelopment of the Vietnam-Thailand strategic partnership, he affirmed thatpromoting friendship and cooperation with Thailand is always one of the toppriorities in Vietnam’s foreign policy with ASEAN.
PM Phuc applauded the outcomes of the earliertalks between General Suwana-Adth and Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chiefof General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army. He also evaluated the twodefence ministries’ cooperation, especially since their cooperation agreementwas inked in 2012.
The two sides should increase high-levelmeetings and dialogues, boost defence policy coordination, enhance cooperationbetween military forces, share information and support each other inmultilateral issues, he added.
For his part, General Suwana-Adth informed hishost about the encouraging outcomes of cooperation between the Thai andVietnamese armies, noting that they have carried a number of cooperationactivities in personnel training and strengthened collaboration betweenmilitary services and arms.
He said during his talks with Lt. Gen. Giang, thetwo sides agreed to promote comprehensive cooperation between air, naval andground forces and increase the exchange of intelligence information so as toensure defence and security in their respective countries, along with peace andstability in the region and the world.
The two armies also concurred in promoting the bilateralcooperation mechanism, thereby helping to solidify the Vietnam-Thailandstrategic partnership in the time ahead, the officer said.-VNA
