PM urges Vietnam, Egypt to increase two-way trade

Trade between Vietnam and Egypt could develop strongly from the current annual level of 400 million USD if the two sides make good use of cooperation opportunities.

Hanoi (VNA) – Trade between Vietnamand Egypt could develop strongly from the current annual level of 400 millionUSD if the two sides make good use of cooperation opportunities.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the remarkswhile meeting with Egyptian Minister of Investment and InternationalCooperation Sahar Nasr and Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the Suez CanalAuthority and head of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, in Hanoi on August 22.

Vietnam readies to export its products to Egyptiansupermarkets chains and sell made-in-Egypt commodities in Vietnam, he said.

Shar Nasr said Egypt boasts great potential inshipbuilding and seaport, which Vietnamese businesses could explore investmentopportunities. She said a business forum will be held during the upcoming visitby the Egyptian President to promote bilateral cooperation.

For his part, Mohab Mamish said a large volumeof global cargo goes through the Suez canal annually.

He noted that Egypt has inaugurated an economic zone to connect theMediterranean Sea with the Asian region, hoping Vietnamese firms will studyinvestment opportunities in the zone.

PM Phuc hoped the two sides will signcooperation agreements in trade and investment, emphasising on the bilateralcooperation potential in garment-textile, processed farm produce, andfisheries.

He proposed Egypt create favourable conditionsfor businesses to cooperate in oil and gas exploitation and provision ofservices relating to this field.

The PM also suggested the inter-governmentalcommittee devise specific programmes to boost the bilateral cooperation in amore pragmatic and efficient manner.
