Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired a working session inthe northern province of Yen Bai on July 24 between the 13th National Party Congress’s sub-committee on socio-economic affairs and leadersof 12 localities.

Itwas the fifth working session between the two sides. Leaders from the northernmountainous provinces of Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Phu Tho, Son La, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai,Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, the central provinces of Nghe An and Thanh Hoaand Hanoi attended the event.

Speakingat the event, PM Phuc asked the sub-committee to work closely with localauthorities to build 2021-2025 socio-economic development orientations and2021-2030 socio-economic development strategy in preparation for the 13th National Party Congress.

Helauded 11 provinces and Hanoi for their socio-political stability, sustainableeconomic growth and high revenues to the State budget. The rate of poorhouseholds in many localities has been reduced to 4-6 percent.

Theleader highlighted the northern mountainous region’s important role inprotecting ecological environment and directing water for daily use in the RedRiver Delta and the capital city.

Herequested improving local lives because the regional poverty rate tops 17percent, higher than the country’s average of nearly 7 percent whilesustainably developing forestry and stabilising border security.

Accordingto him, education remains poor in the region so that more efforts should betaken to fix it.

ThePM suggested fully tapping each locality’s comparative advantage, boosting imports-exportsto China, effectively using land to develop cultivation and animal husbandry.

Heagreed with localities’ suggestion to build new special policies, enhanceinvestment in infrastructure using official development assistance and othersocial resources.

Aboutregional development orientations, he proposed expanding cooperation with notonly Hanoi but also other regional markets.

Heassigned the Transport Ministry and the Government Office to collect feedbackto deal with regional infrastructure issues.-VNA
