PM requests PetroVietnam ensure energy sufficiency

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime MinisterPham Minh Chinh requested that the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) ensureenergy sufficiency during a working session on September 11 to seek ways for acceleratingsome key projects and solving difficulties facing the firm.

PetroVietnam General Director Le ManhHung said the group has continued affirming its role in Vietnam’s economy byhelping guarantee the national energy, food, economic, and sovereigntysecurity and contributing to the State budget.

In 2021, PetroVietnam contributed112.5 trillion VND (nearly 4.8 billion USD) to the State budget, up 80% fromthe year’s target and 36% from 2020. The contribution stood at 90.6 trillionVND in the first eight months of 2022, up 40% from this year’s target and 45%from last year.

Production and business activitiesremain stable, with the exploited crude oil volume 23% higher than theeight-month plan and equivalent to 84% of this year’s target, Hung noted.

He also pointing out certaindifficulties and obstacles to the group and proposed several solutions to theGovernment and the PM.

Applauding efforts by oil and gasworkers, PM Chinh said PetroVietnam has to harmoniously, reasonably, andeffectively combine economic development with security - defence and socialorder and safety safeguarding; stability with reform; fast development withsustainability; and research, exploration, exploitation with processing andproduction of petrol, oil, chemicals, fibre, and yarn.

He underlined that the group must guaranteethe sufficiency of energy, especially petrol and oil, for national developmentand defence while contributing to national industrialisationand modernisation, the formation of an independent and self-reliant economy,technological reform, digital transformation, energy and green transition,supply chain diversification, and social security ensuring.

The Government leader askedPetroVietnam to pay due attention to the Party and apparatus building;continually improve its corporate governance; restructure production and business activities to matchthe current context; combine petroleum exploration and exploitation with theprotection of national interests, independence, and sovereignty at sea; andproduce equipment for the oil and gas industry.

It also needs to stay proactive in internationalcooperation, the PM said, pledging that the Government alwaysstands side by side with the group to support its development./.
