Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed newly accredited AustralianAmbassador Craig Chittick in Hanoi on November 24. 

The PM highlighted fruitful Vietnam - Australiarelations in multiple fields, especially in trade.

He expressedhis thanks for the official development assistance (ODA) the AustralianGovernment has provided for Vietnam, saying that the aid has been usedeffectively.

Vietnam andAustralia have cooperated in multiple economic fields and discussed numerousregional and international issues, the PM said.

Vietnamcurrently has about 50,000 students in Australia, Phuc said, adding that theyplay an important role in promoting he two counries’ relations.

Vietnam wantsto cooperate with Australia in such fields as science and technology, mineralexploration, and develop comprehensive cooperation with the country ineconomics, culture, education and training, and tourism.

He agreed withthe Ambassador’s proposals to implement joint projects on poverty reduction andgender equality, saying he will instruct relevant agencies to work withAustralia on the projects.

The PM welcomedAustralia’s acceleration of signing the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement,and expressed his wish that the Ambassador will contribute to opening a newchapter in cooperation between the two nations

For his part,Ambassador Chittick said the Australian Government pledges to support the TPP.The country also supports Vietnam as a candidate for the director-generalposition of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and CulturalOrganization (UNESCO).

He highlightedfruitful cooperation between the two nations in national defence, security andeconomic development at the governmental level and among businesses.

Australiaprovides ODA to support Vietnam in developing the private sector, traininghuman resources, and narrowing development gaps between regions.

He alsounderlined cooperation potential in telecommunication, specifically in 5Gdevelopment.

The Ambassadorexpressed his wish that the two sides will work together to promote the exchangeof agricultural products.-VNA
