Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on June 19 for visiting Director General of Russia's Rosatom State Atomiс Energy Corporation A.E.Likhachev, during which the host asked the Russian side to continue supporting Vietnam in training human resources in nuclear science.

The PM agreed to cooperate with Russia in building a nuclear medicine centre and researching wind power development.

He said that Vietnam wishes to continue substantive and effective cooperation with Russia in all fields, including atomic energy for peaceful purposes, for the common interests of the two countries' people, for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

Chinh said Vietnam highly appreciates Russia's support in training generations of leading Vietnamese scientists and experts in atomic energy, designing, restoring and increasing the capacity of the Da Lat nuclear reactor, thus contributing to socio-economic development in terms of providing radiopharmaceuticals for cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Vietnam has not had any policy to return to developing nuclear power, but it will continue to research and consider nuclear energy as an important solution to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, ensure energy security, and serve national development, he said.

The PM suggested both sides continue to promote cooperation in nuclear science and technology research for peaceful purposes, especially in ensuring energy and serving people.

He asked Russia and Rosatom in particular to keep supporting Vietnam in human resources training, operation of the Da Lat research reactor, and share information to ensure the quality and progress of the project on building a nuclear science and technology research centre in the southern province of Dong Nai.

He welcomed the group's proposal in building a nuclear medicine centre and cooperating in wind power research and development.

Reviewing the results of cooperation between the two countries in the nuclear field, General Director of Rosatom Likhachev affirmed that Russia and Rosatom wish to continue promoting cooperation with Vietnam in the fields that the Prime Minister has mentioned, especially research on nuclear science, including atomic power, nuclear medicine, and applications in transportation, and others like wind power development.
