Quebec (VNA) – TheVietnamese Government appreciates consultations of the World Bank (WB) and theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) on the management of the macro-economic policyin Vietnam, helping the country maintain macro-economic stability and lowinflation rate, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said.
The Vietnamese leader hadseparate meetings with the WB’s ChiefExecutive Officer Kristalina Georgieva and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)Christine Lagarde in Quebec, Canada right after attending the Group ofSeven (G7) Outreach Summit.
PMPhuc called on the WB to facilitate Vietnam’s access to preferential loans,while assisting the country in infrastructure development, climate changeresponse and poverty reduction.
Hereiterated Vietnam’s commitment to the effective use of the InternationalDevelopment Association (IDA) loans.
ThePM also suggested the IMF coordinate in monitoring and assessing Vietnam’smacro-economy, continue to give consultations to the Vietnamese Government onmanaging the macro-economy, perfecting fiscal and monetary tools andrestructuring the banking-financial sector, as well as provide more technical supportfor the country in the sustainable State budget management.
BothWB and IMF leaders expressed their delight at achievements Vietnam has recordedover the past time, lauding the country’s macro-economic stability and rosygrowth rate amidst uncertainties and risks of the global economy.
WBCEO Kristalina Georgieva pledged that the WB will continue its assistance toVietnam, especially in improving investment environment and developing cleanand renewable energies.
Meanwhile,IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde promised that she and the fundwill strongly support and accompany Vietnam in the reform process.
Onthis occasion, PM Phuc invited the WB and IMF leaders to attend the WorldEconomic Forum on ASEAN, which is scheduled to take place in Vietnam inSeptember 2018.
Thesame day, PM Phuc met with UN Secretary General António Guterres, duringwhich the Vietnamese leader spoke highly of and showed his support for the UN leader’scontributions to promoting preventive diplomacy, preventing conflicts andaddressing disputes by peaceful measures on the basis of respect for the UN Charterand international law.
Vietnamhas actively participated in the UN’s common activities, he said, emphasisingthe country’s support for the UN reform towards more efficiency, transparencyand democratisation.
ThePM appealed to the UN Secretary General to back Vietnam’s bid to run for a non-permanentseat at the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.
Inreply, António Guterres said he hopes to see Vietnam become an active member ofthe council.
PMalso invited the UN Secretary General to attend the World Economic Forum onASEAN and visit Vietnam. António Guterres accepted the invitation withpleasure.
Atthese bilateral meetings, PM Phuc and leaders of the internationalorganisations compared notes on regional and international issues of sharedconcern.-VNA
