Bucharest (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phucon April 15 held talks in Bucharest with his host PM of Romania Viorica Danciladuring his official visit to the European country from April 14-16.

At the talks, the two leaders expressed their joy at thefine development of the bilateral relations of traditional friendship andmultifaceted cooperation over the past nearly 70 years since the establishmentof diplomatic relations in 1950. The Romanian leader affirmed importance to therelations with Vietnam and stressed that the ongoing visit by PM Phuc is animportant milestone in the bilateral relations. She also spoke highly ofVietnam’s socio-economic achievements and rising role in the region and theworld over.

The two leaders exchanged ideas on measures to further pushup bilateral relations in the fields of great potential like politics,diplomacy, security and national defence, economy, trade, investment, educationand training, labour, culture, tourism, agriculture and food processing. Theyspoke highly of the cooperation between the two countries’ localities over therecent past, taking this as a direction for the traditional cooperation betweenthe two sides.

The two PMs agreed to increase the exchange of high-leveldelegations and effectively implement existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms.The two sides should make active preparations for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations.

The host PM said the Vietnamese community in Romania issmall but quite trustworthy and integrating well, making contributions to thesocio-economic development of the host country. Meanwhile, PM Phuc thanked hishost and the Romanian government for the facilitation of the community.

Besides bilateral issues, the two PMs also exchanged ideason international and regional issues of mutual concern, sharing the vision onand commitments to the acceleration of bilateral cooperation at internationalforums and organisations. They affirmed the importance of the maintenance ofpeace, security and stability for cooperation and development, the solution ofdifferences and disputes by peaceful means in line with the international law,the charter of the United Nations and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of theSea.

PM Phuc invited the Romanian PM to pay an official visit toVietnam. The invitation was accepted and will be arranged at a convenient time.

Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signingof a cooperation memorandum of understanding on agriculture, animal health andfood safety, and chaired a joint press conference on the outcome of thetalks.-VNA
