PM: Organic agriculture, spiritual tourism key to Phu Tho economy

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has advised the northern province of Phu Tho to focus on developing organic agriculture and spiritual tourism as the province has great potential in the two sectors thanks to its natural conditions and cultural heritage.

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has advised the northernprovince of Phu Tho to focus on developing organic agriculture and spiritualtourism as the province has great potential in the two sectors thanks to its naturalconditions and cultural heritage.

Inhis meeting with Phu Tho province’s leaders on December 4 on localsocial-economic development, the PM said there is plenty of room for Phu Tho’s economyto grow.

Hehighlighted the province’s advantages as the converging place of three bigrivers (Da, Lo and Red rivers), its location on the Hanoi – Kunming railwayroute and the trans-Asia highway connecting China, Vietnam and other ASEANcountries. Phu Tho is also home to the worship of the Hung Kings, who were thefounders of ancient Vietnam, and the Xoan singing, both of which have beenrecognised as part of the world intangible cultural heritage.

Theprovince should improve its investment and business environment to double thenumber of enterprises and improve the effectiveness of public investment aswell as diversify investment resources, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc said.

PhuTho leaders asked the government to assist the province in implementing theproject of building Viet Tri into a city of festival based on the Hung King’sTemple festival that celebrates the founders of ancient Vietnam.

Despitethe average economic growth of nine percent in the past years, Phu Tho remainsa poor locality with underdeveloped infrastructure and limited resources.

Accordingto the statistics from the Ministry of Finance, Phu Tho ranks 33rd out of 63provinces and cities in term of budget revenue.

Earlier,the PM visited the provincial General Hospital, a typical example of mobilisinginvestment from other economic sectors for infrastructure. The hospital has1,500 beds./.
