Jakarta (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham MinhChinh met his counterpart from the Cook Islands Mark Brown in Jakarta,Indonesia on September 7, within the framework of the 43rd ASEANSummit and related meetings.
The twoPMs once again spoke highly of the signing of the Joint Communiqué to establish diplomaticrelations between Vietnam and the Cook Islands on April 26, 2022, saying it has opened up numerous opportunities for bilateralcooperation in various promising areas.
Theybelieved that with determination and political trust, the bilateral ties willfurther grow, particularly in the economy, trade, agriculture, fisheries, tourism,and in addressing climate change and rising sea levels.
In thecoming time, both sides will send delegates to the International FisheriesForum in the Cook Islands in December and the International Rice Festival inVietnam scheduled for the end of this year.
PM Brown wished to share experience insocioeconomic development as well as global and regional integration withVietnam.
Healso expressed readiness to create conditions for Vietnamese firms toinvest in potential sectors such as tourism and aquaculture, and pledged to engagein early discussions and negotiations with Vietnam on a rice trade cooperationagreement.
PMChinh, for his part, suggested that both sides further enhance mutualconnectivity and support between their economies, with a focus on areas withuntapped potential, such as agriculture, aquaculture and apparel while exploringthe expansion of collaboration in new fields such as the digital economy, circulareconomy, green economy and innovation.
Thetwo leaders agreed to strengthen mutual support at global and regional forums.
In hiscapacity as the incumbent Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), Brown vowedto support and act as a bridge connecting Vietnam with the South Pacificcountries.
He thanked PM Chinh for his invitation to Vietnam and promised to pay avisit soon./.
