Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of attaching importance to developing relations with Japan and suggested the two sides enhance political trust through maintaining all-level visits and meetings.

During his reception for newly-appointed Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Kunio Umeda in Hanoi on November 11, the PM said Vietnam highly values the Japanese Government’s active and effective cooperation with Vietnam across fields, especially in construction and economic development.

Vietnam considers Japan one of its leading and long-term partners, he stressed, adding that relevant Vietnamese agencies will coordinate closely with Japan to well prepare for the upcoming visit to the Southeast Asian nation by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.

The PM shared the hope that the ambassador will work to encourage Japanese enterprises to expand investment in Vietnam, affirming that the Vietnamese Government will create the most favourable conditions for Japanese investors to effectively operate in the country.

He hoped that the Japanese side will give priority to investing in energy and environmentally friendly projects in Vietnam, maintain official development assistance (ODA) for the country, and promote links between Japanese and Vietnamese localities and enterprises in agriculture and high technology.

The host expressed his wish that Ambassador Kunio Umeda will do his best to foster the intensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

For his part, Kunio Umeda promised to do his utmost to boost the bilateral relations in all fields, especially economy, security-defence, and people-to-people exchange.

He affirmed Vietnam is an important priority in his country’s comprehensive cooperation promotion policy, saying that Japanese firms are very interested in Vietnam.

Relevant agencies of both nations are joining hands to prepare for the Vietnam visit by Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, and accelerate the implementation of key cooperation projects, he noted.

He said he wishes to receive support from the Vietnamese PM and agencies to fulfil his tasks during the term in Vietnam, contributing to fostering the special friendship and cooperation between the two countries.-VNA
