PM Dung holds meeting with Russian counterpart

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a meeting with his Russiancounterpart Dmitry Medvedev on the sideline of the signing ceremony ofthe free trade agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the EurasiaEconomic Union (EAEU) in Kazakhstan’s northern Burabai province on May29.

The Vietnamese PM valued the leading roleplayed by Russia in getting the negotiations and signing of the FTAbetween Vietnam and the EAEU done as schedule.

He asked Russiaand other EAEU member states to soon complete approval procedures forthe agreement, in order to quickly put the incentives to use, thusfurther promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation in the nearfuture.

PM Medvedev said the fact that Vietnam is the firstpartner to sign an FTA with the EAEU demonstrates the country’s role andposition in the region and the world.

He expressedhis belief that the pact will not only help expand the bilateralcooperation and lift two-way trade, but also create an impetus forinvestment projects in the two nations, thus deepening theVietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The twoleaders also agreed to actively implement agreements reached between thetwo Governments during Medvedev’s recent visit to Vietnam, especiallyin the fields of energy, investment, security and defence.

Regardingthe East Sea issue, the Russian PM affirmed that his country advocatessettling disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international lawand the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).-VNA
