Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung proposed the US quickly recognise Vietnam’s market economy status while meeting with US Trade Representative, Ambassador Michael Froman on the margin of the ongoing 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on November 21.
He said the conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement negotiations demonstrates the respect of institutions and benefits of the involved parties, including Vietnam and the US, with a view to building mutual trust for deeper cooperation in economics and trade.
The PM said Vietnam will continue to actively implement international integration policy, especially in the economic domain by following earnestly commitments in the trade agreements with the US and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
For his part, Michael Froman said the US regarded the freshly-concluded TPP as a key premise to ratchet up economic, trade collaboration between countries in the region.
The US wants to closely work with Vietnam and other TPP member nations for the early signing, ratification and execution of the world’s largest free trade pact, he added.
It will provide all necessary technical assistance for Vietnam to make the best use of opportunities stemming from the deal once it comes into effect, he said.-VNA
