Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked central localitiesand natural disaster prevention and response forces as well as the wholecommunity to focus on overcoming consequences of recent flooding, and ensuringsafety for students as the new academic year has started.
Ina letter to rescue forces, locals and soldiers in flood-hit localities from HaTinh to Thua Thien-Hue, the PM stressed the need to evacuate community fromrisky areas to safer places in a timely manner, and provide necessities tolocals in flooded and isolated areas, while resuming production as soon aspossible.
TheGovernment leader lauded efforts by the forces in rescue activities and ensuringsafety for the affected people, especially students to attend ceremonies tostart the new school year.
Showinghis sympathies to the administrations and locals in flood-hit localities, thePM asked localities, sectors and the entire society to join hands ineffectively dealing with aftermaths of the disaster, stabilizing the livingconditions and production of the affected community.
Inearly September, torrential rains broughtby a tropical depression were recorded from Nghe An to Thua Thien-Hue.In many areas, total rainfall rose to over 1,000mm, causing widespread floodingin low areas, leading to heavy loss in human lives and property. As ofSeptember 4, at least four peoplewere killed and eight others remain missing in the provinces.
Thehardest-hit localities were Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri.-VNA
