Attendees to a seminar in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on July6 gave their feedback on pilot regulations for coordinating regionalsocio-economic development for 2016-2010, which stay on pillars ofsustainable farming development and improved farmer resilience againstclimate change.
The draft regulations, which are to besubmitted to the Prime Minister for approval, cover four chapters and 19articles, aim to rally resources and play to strengths of 13 regionallocalities amid changing climate patterns.
Farmingproduction will focus on value chains of producing rice, fruits, shrimpsand tra fish while connecting links to expand markets and popularisebrands, enhance farmers’ capacity and improving their livelihoods.
To get farmers adapted to climate change, transport infrastructure willundergo upgrade, especially those used for roads, waterway, seaportsand aviation.
In the meantime, irrigation system will beimproved in order to control water salinity whereas sea embankment andcoastal ecological system be reinforced.
The 13 MekongDelta localities include Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, VinhLong, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Hau Giang, SocTrang and Can Tho.-VNA
