Phu Tho ships first batch of Doan Hung pomelo to Russia

A ceremony was held in the northern province of Phu Tho on January 8 to ship the first batch of pomelo grown in the province’s Doan Hung district to Russia.

Phu Tho (VNA) – A ceremony was held in the northernprovince of Phu Tho on January 8 to ship the first batch of pomelo grown in theprovince’s Doan Hung district to Russia.

The batch weighing 40 tonnes included 36,000 pomelos grownunder VietGAP standards.

Vice Chairman of the Phu Tho People’s Committee Nguyen ThanhHai affirmed that the province will promote the application of science-technology toimprove quality and value of pomelo, and set up a large-scale concentrated cultivationzone of the fruit expanding about 3,000ha.

It will strive to have all pomelo-gowing areas received cultivation zonecodes, he added.

More traders are expected to engage in the production processso as to ensure stable output and create a value chain for pomelo and otherproducts of Doan Hung in the coming time.

Relevant agencies were asked to connect the district withfirms of experience to expand markets and improve yields as well as quality ofpomelo.

Doan Hung district is home to nearly 2,600ha of pomeloyielding an estimate of 24,000 tonnes. It also boasts other agro-forestryproducts of red-flesh dragon fruit, lychee and tea, among others./.
