Phu Tho (VNA) – The northern mid-landprovince of Phu Tho is striving to have 56 more products meet the One Commune,One Product (OCOP) programme standard as a three star or higher manufacturedgoods ranking.

The figure would raise the province’s totalnumber of OCOP goods of three stars and above to 124 by the end of 2022.

Also toward the year’s end, Phu Tho aims atforming a stable and effective supply chain that connects to supermarkets andshopping malls for distribution. The provincial administration will also help with the building of up to two morepoints of OCOP introduction, promotion and sale that are linked to theprovincial tours and festivals.

To that end, the province has requested competentagencies, sectors, and localities involved come up with creative ideas, focuson improving the quality of existing products and developing new ones.

It is also necessary to ramp up comprehensiveadvertisement activities, which cover organising OCOP trade fairs andexhibitions, and developing facilities for sale and promotion centres servingthe products.

Currently, the province is implementing itssci-tech policies targeting OCOP products to increase related technologicalapplication, intellectual property rights protection, and digitaltransformation. This will help in the construction and effective management ofthe OCOP Phu Tho product brand via the development of management software, product evaluation and classification.

Phu Tho is also assisting OCOP firms to advertisetheir goods on a wide range of e-commerce platforms such as giaothuong.net.vn; and nongsan.phutho.gov.vn.

Tran Tu Anh, Vice Director of the provincial Departmentof Agriculture and Rural Development, said the products have contributed toleveraging the local farming sector, with product values, and incomes ofhouseholds, cooperatives and businesses increasing continuously.

The official recommended that further attentionbe paid to communications in a bid to raise people's awareness about thedevelopment of commodity production following the value chain for improvedcompetitiveness and exports.

According to Vu Quoc Tuan, head of the Phu Thorural development sub-department, by this time, the assessment andclassification of newly developed OCOP products is in line with the plan.

At the first round of OCOP product evaluation andclassification in 2022 taking place on August 18, the provincial council forOCOP grading and evaluated 30 product profiles of 11 districts, cities and towns.

As a result, there were seven products meeting thefour-star standard, and 23 others ranked three stars.

In 2021, Phu Tho organised two rounds of productclassification, with 57 products and product groups submitted to the provincialPeople’s Committee for recognition of OCOP product standards.

Up to now, the province has 78 OCOP products andgroups of products, including 30 four-star and 48 three-star products. Thelocal agriculture, industry and trade sectors organised many communications andpromotion programmes in different forms and achieved good results.

The OCOP programme was initiated by the Ministryof Agriculture and Rural Development in 2008, based on Japan’s “One Village,One Product” and Thailand’s “One Tambon, One Product” programmes. It is aneconomic development programme for rural areas and also to help implement thenational target programme on new-style rural area building.

OCOP products are made based on the combinationof local resources, traditional culture, and advanced technology, thuspromoting product diversification, quality, packaging, and origin traceability.

The programme has provided farmers with thechance to come together to form cooperatives, which in turn have enabledfarmers to create goods with better quality, design, and packaging that meethigher standards and match market demand.

In the first half of this year, Phu Tho’s GRDPexpanded some 7.8%, and the province attracted three FDI projects worth 226million USD. The province was among the 20 cities and provinces nationwide withthe highest disbursement rate of public investment./.
