A photo exhibition featuring the 70-year operation of Vietnam ’s diplomatic sector (August 28, 1945-2015) is taking place in Vientiane of Laos.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on August 24, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung said that during the wartime, the diplomatic sector upheld the Vietnamese people’s tradition of both combating and negotiating, and focused on taking full advantage of the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia fighting alliance and the support of peace- and justice-lovers all over the world.
In the peacetime, the sector has paid attention to maintaining a peaceful and favourable environment for national development and firmly safeguarding independence, sovereignty, unification and territorial integrity, while continuously increasing the country’s role in the international arena, he stated.
To date, Vietnam has set up its diplomatic ties with 185 countries and become a member of nearly 70 regional and international organisations, he said, adding that the time-honoured friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos always tops its multilateral external relations.
Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith stated that over the past seven decades, the two countries’ diplomatic sectors have regularly exchanged information and experience as well as supported each other in many areas.
He took the occasion to thank the Vietnamese Party, Government, people and Foreign Ministry for their timely and valuable assistance for Laos over the past time.
Meanwhile, Cambodian Ambassador to Laos Hos Sereythonh affirmed his country’s diplomatic sector has leant much from Vietnam ’s diplomacy, especially the struggle for the Paris Accords.
The photo exhibition will remain open to visitors until August 30.-VNA
