Hanoi (VNA) – Storm Maring landed in the eastern part of thePhilippines on September 12, flooding Manila and nearby provinces and causinglandslides and flash floods that killed at least four people and left six othersmissing.
Two brothers aged 14 and 17 died when a landslide covered their home at thefoot of a hill before dawn in Taytay town near Manila. Police also reportedthat a 12 year-old girl drowned while bathing in a river during the heavydownpour.
Most of the victims lived in impoverished and dangerous areas.
Storm Maring made landfall in Mauban town, eastern Philippines on earlySeptember 12 and moved northwest across the main island of Luzon and swept throughManila with gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour.
Relevant authorities ordered the evacuation of residents in landslide-pronelocalities of Laguna, Batangas and Quezon.
Twenty-two passengers on a bus stranded in floodwater were rescued in Quezon province.-VNA
