Hanoi (VNA) – A moderately strong5.9-magnitude earthquake struck at sea off the main southern Philippine islandof Mindanao on April 5.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenterlied at the depth of 64.4 kilometres, around 45 kilometres southeast of thetown of Tarragona.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology andSeismology, which separately measured the quake at 6.0 magnitude, said thequake was felt in the Mindanao cities of Davao, Mati and Bislig.
No casualties or damagewere reported so far.
The Philippines lies on the Ring of Fire, a vastPacific Ocean region where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.-VNA
