Hanoi (VNA) - The Philippines and China have signed six bilateralagreements related to economic growth, education, and science and technologyduring President Rodrigo Duterte’s visit to Beijing from August 28 to September1.
Philippine PresidentialSpokesperson Salvador Panelo said on August 30 that among the agreements signedwere a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on education cooperation between thePhilippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and China's Ministry ofEducation and MOU on science and technology cooperation between the Philippine Departmentof Science and Technology (DOST) and the Ministry of Science and Technology ofChina.
ThePhilippines' Bureau of Customs (BoC) and China's General Administration ofCustoms also inked a cooperative arrangement on the implementation of theintergovernmental agreement regarding cooperation and mutual assistance incustoms matters. There was also an implementation contract on the China-aidedcontainer inspection equipment between the BoC and the Ministry of Commerce.
On August29, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with his Philippine counterpart RodrigoDuterte during which the two leaders expressed their willingness to furtherboost cooperative relations.
Dutertewas “steadfast” in his nation’s territorial claims and its victory in thearbitral court three years ago, which the Philippine leader described as“final, binding and not subject to appeal,” Panelo said.-VNA
