Hanoi (VNA) – Philippine President RodrigoDuterte called for greater international cooperation in the fight againstIslamic militants following military victories in Iraq, Syria and the southernPhilippine city of Marawi.
Duterte will discuss the fight against terrorism, a keypriority, with ASEAN leaders and regional partners, including US PresidentDonald Trump, at the ASEAN Summit in Manila on November 13, Philippine ForeignMinister Alan Peter Cayetano said in a statement a day after an IslamicState-inspired attack in New York killed eight people.
The Philippine president will urge its allies to step upefforts in going after IS and its affiliates worldwide, Cayetano noted.
He added that the Philippines wants to deepen itscooperation with the allies by further enhancing intelligence sharing, trainingand capacity building, among others.
The Philippine armed forces have liberated Marawi cityafter the five-month clashes against Islamic militants, which claimed 1,100 livesand made about 400,000 others leave their homes.-VNA
