Philippines: 48 rebels surrender to govt troops

Forty-eight rebels of the New People’s Army (NPA) recently yielded to government troops in the Philippines’ southern province of Bukidnon.
Forty-eight rebels of the New People’s Army (NPA) recently yielded togovernment troops in the Philippines’ southern province of Bukidnon.

Philippine Army spokesman Noel Detoyato said thatthe leftist rebels were former members of the NPA's so-called GuerrillaFront 6 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee operating inBukidnon province. As many as 43 surrendered on March 22 and five laiddown their arms on March 24.

They handed over an assortment of firearms, he added .

The rebels are now undergoing debriefing.-VNA
